 VERB IS A DOING WORD. IT HAS BEEN CATEGORIZED AS FOLLOWS.

C.INTRANSITIVE VERB


FINITE VERB HAS A SUBJECT AND A TENSE TO DESCRIBE. ON THE OTHER HAND NON FINITE VERB IS USED FOR NAMING AN ACTIVITY CONTINUOUS OR COMPLETED ACTIONS. NON FINITE VERB IS SUB DIVIDED INTO FOLLOWING PARTS.

1. INFINITIVE

2.GERUND

3. PARTICIPLE

INFINITIVE:- IT IS A TYPE OF VERB THAT EXPRESS INTENTIONS OF THE SUBJECT.

IT IS FOLLOWED BY TO AND FIRST FORM OF THE VERB. FOR EXAMPLE: TO + V1. IT ACTS AS A NOUN AND VERB BOTH IN A SENTENCE.


EXAMPLE: TO PLAY, TO EAT, TO DANCE, TO LEARN, TO WATCH, ETC.,

GERUND: IT IS USED FOR NAMING AN ACTIVITY. IT HAS THE NATURE OF NOUN AND VERB. IT IS FOLLOWED BY FIRST FORM OF THE VERB AND ...ING IS ADDED TO MAKE IT FOUR FORM OF THE VERB.

     V1  + ....ING

EXAMPLE: STUDYING, WRITING, PLAYING, MEETING, TELLING, SHOOTING, ETC.,


PARTICIPLE: THIS TYPE OF VERB HAS A DUAL NATURE OF VERB AND AN ADJECTIVE.

IT MODIFIES THE NOUN AND IS PLACED NORMALLY BEFORE A NOUN.

EXAMPLE: SPOKEN ENGLISH, EDUCATED MAN, REVISED EDITION, ETC.

| USING APOSTROPHE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE | Apostrophe is used in showing possessiveness of the Noun. It shows a certain item or thing belongs to somebody. It express ownership.
